About Lesson
H. International Trade
- The barter system, a method of direct exchange of goods, was once widely used.
- One of the rare instances where this system is still practiced today is the Jon Beel Mela, held every January after the harvest season in Jagiroad, located 35 km from Guwahati. This unique fair in India is perhaps the only one where the barter system remains alive.Â
- During the fair, a large market is organized, where people from various tribes and communities gather to exchange their products directly.
