I. Human Settlements
- A human settlement is defined as a place that is inhabited more or less permanently, where people live and build their communities.
- According to the Census of India, 1991, urban settlements are defined as:
- Places that have a municipality, corporation, cantonment board, or a notified town area committee.
- The settlement must have a minimum population of 5000 persons.
- At least 75 percent of male workers must be engaged in non-agricultural pursuits.
- The population density must be at least 400 persons per square kilometer.
