Q. Special Officer for Linguistic Minorities
- To protect the rights of linguistic minorities, the President of India appoints a Special Officer for Linguistic Minorities, as outlined in Article 350-B of the Indian Constitution.Â
- This provision was introduced by the Seventh Constitutional Amendment Act of 1956, which added Article 350-B.Â
- The office of the Special Officer for Linguistic Minorities was established in 1957 to investigate issues related to the safeguards provided for linguistic minorities under the Constitution.
- At the Central level, the Commissioner falls under the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Hence, they submit reports to the President through the Union Minority Affairs Minister.
