1.22  Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojana

The Bihar government started the scheme “Har ghar Nal ka Jal” Yojana in the year 2016. Under the Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Yojana, the government has started these schemes to turn the scheme into reality in  27 September 2016 – 

  1. Mukhyamantri Gramin Peyjal Nishchay Yojana 
  2. Mukhyamantri Gramin Peyjal (Quality Affected Areas) Nishchay Yojana
  3. Mukhyamantri Gramin Peyjal (Non-quality Affected Areas) Nishchay Yojana 
  4. Mukhyamantri Shahri Peyjal Nishchay Yojana.

Objective

  • Its objective is to ensure clean drinking water reaches every household in Bihar, covering 2 crore families, without any discrimination.
  • Minimize people’s reliance on hand pumps (chapakals) and other conventional water sources by providing piped water.

Aim of Mukhyamantri Gramin Peyjal Nishchay Yojana 

Ensure piped tap water supply to all households in 4,291 Gram Panchayats with safe water quality.

Aim of Mukhyamantri Gramin Peyjal (Quality Affected Areas) Nishchay Yojana

Provide tap water to 3,079 Fluoride-Affected Wards, 2,556 Arsenic-Affected Wards and 20,093 Iron-Affected Wards.

Aim of Mukhyamantri Gramin Peyjal (Non-quality Affected Areas) Nishchay Yojana 

Provide piped tap water to households in 1,027 Gram Panchayats with minimum water quality issues.

Aim of Mukhyamantri Shahri Peyjal Nishchay Yojana

Supply piped tap water to all households in 143 municipal corporations lacking access.

Benefits & Important Points —

  • Water has reached every house in 871 wards of Patna district.
  • Under this scheme of providing pure drinking water to every household in Bihar, a target has been set to install taps in 56,000 wards across the state.
  • The Bihar government hopes that through this initiative they will be able to provide clean drinking water as well as improve the standard of living and health of the public.
  • Every family taking benefit of the Tap Water Scheme has to pay a fee of Rs 30 per month.
