4.1 Most Important Government Schemes

4.1.1 Namami Gange Yojana

  • Namami Gange Yojana was launched on July 10, 2014 for the conservation and purification of the Ganges River.
  • Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti manages this scheme.     
  • The scheme aims to be completed by 2020.
  • Rs 2,037 crore has been allocated for the next 5 years under the plan.     

 

4.1.2 Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched on August 28, 2014 .     
  • The slogan of the scheme is: Mera Khata, Bhagya Vidhata     
  • The main goal of this scheme is to ensure access to bank accounts, loans, insurance, pension and financial inclusion to the disadvantaged sections.     
  • Any person above the age of 10 years can open a bank account under this scheme with zero balance.     
  • There is a provision of accidental insurance of Rs 1 lakh and life insurance of Rs 30000 under this scheme .     

4.1.3 Make in India Yojana

  • Make in India was launched on 25 September 2014
  • The main objective of this program is to encourage multinational and national companies to manufacture their products in India and to focus on job creation and skill enhancement in 25 sectors of the economy.     
  • The main goal of this program is to increase the share of the manufacturing sector in GDP from 16% to 25% by the year 2020.     

4.1.4 Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushal Yojana

  • Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushal Yojana was launched on September 25, 2014 on the 98th birth date of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya .     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to develop the skills and productive capacity of youth residing in rural areas to achieve inclusive growth.     
  • The main goal of this scheme is to distribute employment to 10 lakh rural youth under the age of 15 to 35 years in three years.     
  • An initial fund of Rs 1500 crores was allocated for this scheme.     

4.1.5 Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched on 2 October 2014 .     
  • The main goal of this scheme is to make the whole of India clean by October 2, 2019.     
  • The slogan of this scheme is – One step towards cleanliness     
  • The Swachh Bharat Mission is being implemented by the Ministry of Urban Development .     
  • The second phase of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was started from 2 October 2019.
  • The Center has launched the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) – SBM (G) Phase-II on 4 March 2020.
  • Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) – SBM (G) Phase-II will be implemented in mission mode from 2020-2021 to 2024-2025 with an outlay of Rs 1,40,881 crore.  
  • Haryana was declared an open defecation free state (99%) of India.              
  • Toilet coverage area-91.3%              
  • Single use plastic is being banned. India will be single-use plastic free by 2022.              

 

4.1.6 Sansad Adarsh ​​Gram Yojana

  • Sansad Adarsh ​​Gram Yojana is a scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birthday of Jayaprakash Narayan on 11 October 2014 .     
  • The main objective of this scheme is the development of designated model villages in the ideal villages for the development of social, cultural and infrastructure of the village.     
  • The goal of this scheme is to develop by adopting 3 villages by the year 2019 and a total of 8 villages by the year 2024 by each MP.     

4.1.7 Mission Indradhanush Yojana

  • Mission Indradhanush Abhiyan was launched by the Union Ministry of Health, Government of India on 25 December 2014 on the occasion of Good Governance Day to bring all children under vaccination.     
  • The campaign, which showcases the seven colors of the rainbow, aims to achieve the goal of complete immunization by 2020 .     
  • Vaccination for 7 diseases (diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, TB, measles and hepatitis ‘B’) are given under this scheme .     

4.1.8 Pahal Yojana

  • The Pahal scheme was implemented on 1 January 2015 at the national level.     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to send subsidy money of LPG cylinders directly to consumers’ bank accounts .     
  • This scheme is recorded in the Guinness World i.e. it is the most famous scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.     
  • This scheme is also known as DBTL (Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG) scheme.     

4.1.9 Hriday Yojana

  • Hriday Yojana was launched on 21 January 2015 for the development and growth of the old cities and villages in India.     
  • HRIDAY – Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana     
  • The scheme was launched by the Ministry of Urban Development .     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to revive the cultural heritage of selected 12 cities of the country (Ajmer, Amravati (Andhra Pradesh), Amritsar, Badami, Dwarka, Gaya, Kanchipuram, Mathura, Puri, Varanasi, Velankanni and Warangal).     
  • A time of 27 months (March 2017) and a budget of Rs 500 crores has been kept to complete this scheme.     

4.1.10 Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme 

  • ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme was launched by the Government of India on 22 January 2015 from Panipat (Haryana).     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to save girls, empower them and create awareness for welfare services for girls.     
  • The main goal of this scheme is to promote gender equality and raise the sex ratio.     
  • The scheme was launched with an initial amount of Rs 100 crore.     
  • Madhuri Dixit has been appointed as the brand ambassador of this campaign by the Government of India .     
  • Sakshi Malik has been appointed the brand ambassador of this campaign by the Haryana Government .     

4.1.11 Prime Minister ‘Mudra’ scheme 

  • Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana was launched by the Prime Minister on 8 April 2015 .     
  • MUDRA stands for: Micro Units Development & Refinance Agency     
  • The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance and provide loans for the development of the sector of micro enterprises .     
  • Three types of loans are given under this scheme – Shishu, Kishore and Tarun     
  • There is a provision to give loans up to 50 thousand under the Shishu, 5 lakh under Kishore and 10 lakh under Tarun.     
  • No processing fee is charged in providing loans under Mudra scheme.     

4.1.12 UJALA Yojana

  • UJALA scheme was launched on 1 May 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in place of ‘ Bachat Lamp Yojana’ .     
  • UJALA stands for – Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to distribute LED bulbs at low prices to reduce power consumption.     

4.1.13 Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana 

  • Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 May 2015 from Kolkata.     
  • Main objective – to provide contingency insurance cover to all Indian citizens .     
  • Under this scheme, any Indian citizen between 18 to 70 years of age with a savings bank account can avail accident insurance ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh by paying a premium of Rs 12 per year.     

4.1.14 Pradhanmantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana

  • Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana was launched on 9 May 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to provide life insurance cover to all Indian citizens .     
  • Under this scheme, any Indian citizen between the ages of 18 to 50 years can get the benefit of life insurance of Rs 2 lakh by paying a premium of Rs 330 per year.     

4.1.15 Atal Pension Yojana

  • Atal Pension Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Kolkata on 9 May 2015 .     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to provide pension facilities to the people of the unorganized sector.     
  • The scheme is administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority.     
  • Under this scheme, anyone in the age group of 18 to 40 years can get a pension of 1 thousand to 5 thousand on the basis of rupees deposited in the bank .     
  • Under this scheme, a person has to contribute at least 20 years before getting pension to avail the benefits of the scheme after the age of 60 years.     

4.1.16 AMRUT Yojana

  • AMRUT Yojana was launched by the Government of India on 24 June 2015 .     
  • AMRUT stands for: Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to provide uninterrupted facilities like water supply, sewerage, urban transport, parks for improving the quality of life for all, especially the poor and deprived people .     
  • The plan includes creating 100 smart cities, developing infrastructure in 500 cities and building houses for all in urban areas by 2022.     
  • A budget of Rs 5000 crores has been kept by the government for this scheme.     

4.1.17 Smart City Yojana

  • Smart city scheme was launched on 25 June 2015 .     
  • The plan aims to develop 161 selected cities (formerly 100) as smart cities by 2020.     

4.1.18 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched on 25 June 2015 .     
  • The scheme is also known as ‘Housing for All’ (Housing for All) .     
  • The plan aims to construct 2 crore new houses by 2022 .     

4.1.19 Digital India Mission

  • Digital India Mission was launched on 1 July 2015.     
  • The objective of this scheme is to make all government services available to the public electronically.     

4.1.20 PMKSY – Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana 
(Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme)

  • Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana was launched on 1 July 2015.     
  • The objective of this scheme is to provide water to farmers by any means .     
  • The scheme aims to double the income of farmers by 2020.     

4.1.21 Skill India Mission

  • Skill India Mission was launched on 15 July 2015.     
  • The scheme aims at skill development of the youth of the country by 2022.     
  • The brand ambassador of this scheme is Sachin Tendulkar.     

4.1.22 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 

  • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana was launched on 16 July 2015.     
  • The objective of this scheme is to train youth and provide jobs .     

4.1.23 Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana 

  • Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana was launched on 25 July 2015.     
  • The main objective of this scheme is to provide electricity in all villages, improve the financial condition of distribution companies and proper monitoring.     

4.1.24 Sagarmala Project

  • The Sagarmala Project was launched on 31 July 2015.     
  • Under this project, a budget of Rs. 7000 crores has been set to make 12 ports world class.     

4.1.25 UDAY Yojana

  • UDAY Yojana was launched on 5 November 2015.     
  • The full form of Uday (UDAY) is Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana.     
  • The main goal of this scheme is to provide financial reforms to power distribution companies (DISCOMs) and to overcome losses.     
  • Jharkhand is the first state to join this scheme.     

4.1.26 Startup India

  • Start-up India was launched on 16 January 2016.     
  • Its main objective is to promote new traders and create a conducive environment for starting a business.     

4.1.27 Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission

  • Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban Mission was launched on 22 February 2016.     
  • The main goal of this mission is to build 300 rural clusters (clusters) for the promotion of local economic development across the country in 3 years.     

4.1.28 Setu Bharatam Yojana

  • Setu Bharatam Yojana was launched on March 4, 2016.     
  • The main goal of this scheme is to free all national highways from railway crossings by 2019.     
  • A budget of Rs 50000 crores has been kept for this scheme to build a total of 1500 bridges.     

4.1.29 Stand Up India

  • Stand Up India was launched on 5 April 2016.     
  • This scheme aims to provide credit to SC / ST and women entrepreneurs.     
  • Under this scheme, loan from 10 lakh to 1 crore has been ensured for setting up new companies.     

4.1.30 Gram Uday se Bharat Uday Yojana

  • Village Uday Abhiyan Bharat Uday Abhiyan was launched from 14 to 24 April 2016 on the 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in Mahu.     
  • For the right development in the country, development of villages was emphasised under this scheme.     

4.1.31 Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

  • Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched on 1 May 2016.     
  • The objective of the scheme is to provide free LPG connections to BPL families in rural and urban areas.     
  • Under this scheme, the government provides financial assistance of Rs 1600 per connection to BPL families.     
  • The budget of this scheme has been kept at 8000 crores.     

 

4.1.32 Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana

  • The scheme was announced by the Prime Minister on 1 January 2017 and launched by the Life Corporation of India (LIC) on 1 April 2017.     
  • The objective of this scheme is to give a guaranteed minimum interest rate to senior citizens aged 60 years and above.     
  • This guaranteed interest rate will be 8% for 10 years.     

 

4.1.33 Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – Saubhagya

  • The Saubhagya scheme was launched on 25 September 2017.     
  • Under this scheme, a target has been set to provide electricity to every household by 31 March 2019. Under this scheme, electricity connections will also be provided to other houses on payment of Rs 500 only.     
  • The full name of this scheme is ‘Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana’. 

 

4.1.34 Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana

  • The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 September 2018 from Ranchi , the capital of Jharkhand .     
  • The objective of the scheme is to provide health insurance to the economically weaker people (BPL holders). Cashless health insurance of up to 5 lakh will be provided to each family covered under this.     
  • 10.74 crore BPL holders will benefit from this scheme.     
  • Under this scheme 1350 types of diseases including screening, surgery, medicine.   

4.1.35 ** “UMMID” Scheme (Unique Methods of Management and Treatment of Inherited Disorders- UMMID)

  • 23 SEP 2019 Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan launched the UMMID – Asha (unique methods of treatment and management of hereditary disorders) initiative.     
  • Nidan (National Hereditary Disease Management) Centres inaugurated. The establishment of these centres is being assisted by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology .     

Objective of expected initiative:

  • Establishment of National Inherited Diseases Administration- NIDAN centres in government hospitals for counselling, antenatal therapy, management and providing care related to all subjects.     
  • To promote skilled practitioners in the field of Human Genetics.     
  • Examination of pregnant women and newborn infants suffering from genetic diseases in Aspirational Districts hospitals.     
  • To spread awareness about genetic disorders among physicians and to ensure the system of Molecular Diagnostics in hospitals.     

 

4.1.36 ** KUSUM Yojana – Farmer Energy Security and Regeneration Mahabhiyan

  • The Kisan Urja Suraksha and Uthan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) scheme was announced in the budget 2018-2019.     
  • The purpose of the KUSUM scheme is to encourage farmers to run solar pumps in fields and use barren land to produce solar energy to earn extra income.     
  • It is a 4 lakh crore scheme of the Government of India under which decentralized production of solar energy up to 28,250 MW will be promoted to help the farmers.     
  • According to the KUSUM scheme, farmers will be able to supply a surplus fraction of the electricity generated from solar power projects installed on wastelands to the grids, which will give them economic benefits.     
  • For this, electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) will be given a production based incentive amount of 50 paise per unit for purchasing power from farmers for five years.     
  • The government will provide subsidies for purchasing 5 lakh off-grid (grid-less) solar pumps to farmers’ accounts. The centre and the state will provide a 30% subsidy on each solar pump. The other 30% will be obtained through loan, while 10% cost will be borne by the farmer.  
  • 7,250 MW capacity grid-connected farm pumps will be solarized.     
  • Grid related water pumps of government departments will be solarized.    

4.1.37 **Pradhan Mantri Shramyogi Mandhan Yojana

  • Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is one of the important schemes of the Government of India. Under this scheme, it provides financial assistance to small and marginal farmers who have less than 2 hectares (4.9 acres) of land.
  • Under this scheme, all the farmers are getting 6 thousand rupees per year as minimum income support. This scheme, implemented from 1st December 2018, is proving to be a boon for the farmers.
  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana ₹ 6,000 per year is paid to each eligible farmer in three installments and the assistance amount is directly deposited into their bank accounts. That is, after every 4 months, rupees 2000 assistance is being given to the farmer.
  • The scheme was launched in the Rabi season of the year 2018. At that time, the government had made an advance budgetary provision of Rs 20,000 crore for this, while the annual expenditure on the scheme was estimated to be Rs 75,000 crore. But due to more number of farmers in the country and the interest of farmers in this scheme, the annual expenditure has increased.

4.1.38 **Pradhan Mantri Shramyogi Mandhan Yojana

  • The scheme was launched by Narendra Modi from Vastral (Gujarat) on March 5, 2019.     
  • Under this scheme, workers of the unorganised sector will get the benefit of monthly pension of Rs 3000 during old age. If the subscriber dies during the receipt of pension, then 50% of the pension received by the beneficiary will be given as family pension to the spouse of the beneficiary.     
  • The eligible beneficiaries of this scheme are household workers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, brick kiln labourers, head loaders, garbage lifters, construction workers, domestic workers, washermen, Rickshaw pullers in the age group of 18-40 years, landless labourers, handloom labourers, etc. will be such labourers whose monthly income is 15000 rupees or less.     

Who will be the beneficiaries of the scheme:

  • Any worker associated with an unorganised sector and whose age is between 18 and 40 forty years.     
  • Interested people are not already availing any government pension scheme.     
  • Apart from the unorganised sector, domestic workers, rickshaw drivers, drivers, labourers etc. can participate in this scheme     
  • The salary of the applicant should not be more than 15 thousand per month.     

Benefits of Prime Minister Modi Shramyogi Maandhan Pension Scheme

  • The amount of money the beneficiary will give under this scheme every month, an equivalent amount the government will give on its behalf     
  • A person participating in the scheme will get a pension of 3 thousand rupees every month when he will be sixty years old.
  • This scheme will prove to be a boon for the unorganised sector workers in old age.     

 

4.1.39 ** PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana:

  • PM Narendra Modi launched Pradhan Mantri Kisan Manadhan Yojana from Ranchi in Jharkhand on 12 September.     
  • Under this scheme, after the age of 60, farmers will get a monthly pension of Rs 3 thousand on a nominal contribution.     

How and Who can take advantage of the scheme

  • Kisan Pension Yojana is for young farmers between the ages of 18 to 40 years with any small holding and marginal farmers who have only 2 hectares of cultivated land.     
  • They will have to contribute monthly from Rs 55 to Rs 200 for a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 42 years, depending on their age.     
  • After 60 years, they will get a monthly pension of Rs 3000.
