1. Son River
|
● Total length – 780 km . ● Length in Bihar – 202 km . ● ** Origin – Amarkantak Peak (Madhya Pradesh) ● Sangam – Ganges River (between Danapur and Maner) ● Famous as Hiranyawah and Sonbhadra, Son is the most major river of south Bihar ● Narmada and Mahanadi also emerge from near the origin of Son ● The Son river flows through Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, and enters Bihar via Rohtas district and finally joins the Ganges near Patna in Bihar. ● The longest tributary river of the Ganges to be flowing in southern Bihar ● Southwest Bihar’s most prominent irrigation scheme is based on the Son river. ● The first dam on this river was made in Deori in 1873-74 . ● Later, Indrapuri Barrage was constructed on this river in 1968 A.D. ● ** The 1440 m long rail – cum – road bridge was built on Son river in Koelvar near Aara in 1862 AD . It is currently famous as Abdul Bari Bridge . It is India’s Longest Rail Bridge ● In 1900 A.D., The Nehru Rail Bridge was constructed on this river near Dehri . |

2. Phalgu River
|
● Total length – 235 km . ● Place of origin – North Chotanagpur Plateau (Hazaribagh) ● Sangam – Ganges River (Taal area) ● ** Its main stream is called Niranjana. ● ** On the Banks Niranjana River Gautam Buddha had attained Enlightenment. ● On the banks of the river ** Pitra Paksha Ka Mela is organized in which Pind Daan (offering of libations of water) of ancestors is done.

The river is also known as the Antahsalila or Leelajan; this river is divided into two branches near the Barabar hill in Jehanabad district. Later, the Falgu river is divided into many branches -Bhutahi, Karrua ,Lokayan, Maha Twain etc. |

3. Punpun River
|
● Total length – 200 km . ● Place of origin – Chota Nagpur Plateau (Palamu) ● Sangam – Ganges River (near Fatuha) ● It is a seasonal river ● Also known as Kikat and Bamagdhi. ● Flowing parallelly to the Ganga river through Aurangabad, Arwal and Patna districts it merges with Ganga near Fatuha. |
Dardha, Yamuna, Madar, Bilaro, Ramrekha, Adri, Doba and Morhar Punpun are the major tributaries |

4. ** Ajay River
|
● Total length – 288 km . ● Place of Origin – Batbarh (Jamui) ● Sangam – Ganges (West Bengal) ● It enters the Deogarh district in Jharkhand from Bihar. ● It is also known as Ajayavati or Ajmati. ● The river flows towards the east and south direction and enters Bengal and merges with river Ganges. |

● Total length – 192 km . ● Place of origin – Sarodag (Kaimur) ● Sangam – Ganges River ● Karmnasha means –One who destroys karma ● The river comes out of Sarodag (Kaimur) in the hills of Vindhyachal and joins the river Ganga near Chausa. ● ** This river, according to Hindu religious affiliations Is Considered Profane Or Unlucky. |

6. Chanan River
|
● This river is also called Panchanan. ● Its original name is Panchanan, which started to be called Chanan due to the regular usage by the people. ● This river is formed from five streams, hence is called Panchanan ● . Major streams of this river – Paimar, Tilaiya, Dharanje, Mahane etc. come out from the Chotanagpur Plateau. ● All these streams flow in front of the Giriyak of Nalanda district, due to the barrier of Rajgir hill |

Kyul River
|
● Origin – Hazaribagh Plateau ● Enters near Satpadi in Jamui district in Bihar ● Sangam – with Ganges near Suryagarha of Lakhisarai District. |
Major tributaries are Burner, Anjan, Harohar (halahal) etc. |
