1.24 Ganga Udwah Yojana

Under the Ganga Jal Udvah Project, by laying pipes of around 151 km length, Ganga water will be taken out from Maranchi in Mokama and supplied to the houses in Gaya, Bodh Gaya, Rajgir and Nawada cities. It is a multiple phase drinking water scheme in which the first phase of this scheme was approved in December 2019.

  • In December 2019, the state cabinet had approved Rs 2,836 crore for the first phase of the Ganga Water Diversion Scheme.
  • Due to delays caused by COVID-19, the cost has increased to ₹4,174 crore (US$609.4 million).

Benefits & Important Points —

  • CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Ganga Udwah Yojana in Gaya in 2022.Under the Ganga Udvah Yojana, Ganga water will be stored in the dam built in Tetar village of Mohda block of Gaya district.
  • On October 6, 2021, the works of ‘Ganga Jal Udvah Yojana’ were reviewed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
  • The first phase of this scheme was targeted to be completed by June 2021, but it was delayed due to the Corona crisis and technical reasons.
  • On completion of the first phase of the scheme, the thirst of a population of about 9 lakhs will be quenched.
